WBZ Radio's Mark Katic has passed away

WBZ/News Radio 1030 announced its veteran/reporter anchor Mark Katic had lost his year-long battle with stomach cancer. He was 53. Katic had joined WBZ in 1999 as a sports reporter, but after the 9/11 attacks, he chose to go into a news reporting role. However, he still kept his hand at sports reporting, including anchoring the station's Boston Marathon coverage. Prior to joining WBZ, Katic was a sports reporter for ESPN Radio and WHJJ in Providence.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Assistant News Director Jon MacLean said of Katic: "You could tell he loved radio and loved what he did. I think we'd all agree that his calls during our marathon coverage were second to none. He will always remain a part of the fabric of this newsroom and his influence both on and off the air will live on."
