Greater Media confirms WTKK is dropping its talk format

WTKK 96.9 will no longer have a news/talk format starting at 10am Wednesday(1/2/13). Station's parent owner Greater Media has officially issued a press release earlier today stating that station's morning show hosts Margery Eagan and Jim Braude will do their farewell 3-hour show to wrap up WTKK's 13-year run as the plug is going to be pulled on FM talker. The station is expected to change to yet-to-be announced music format after 10am tomorrow.

Greater Media, which also owns four other Boston FM stations, has reportedly hired former longtime Kiss 108/Jamn 94-5 program director/operations manager "Cadillac"  Jack McCartney to program the new format on 96.9 as well as its mainstream adult contemporary WMJX/Magic 106.7 which has been without a full-time program director since last March(BRW 3/5/12). As for what new programming may headed to 96.9, rumors of some type of retro rhythmic/dance format might make a debut. The upbeat music format would be somewhat similar to the now-defunct Star 93.7/The Rhythm of Boston which was on the air from 1999 to 2005 and featured a playlist of vintage uptempo pop tracks from the 1970's and 1980's to a more current dance hits on Billboard's Top 40 chart.

So disappointing. I couldn't believe it when I turned on the radio and heard Rhianna yet again on another FM station. How original!

Nuts! nothing to put against NPR they are talking about comets today

Agreed. Guess adults aren't supposed to listen to the radio anymore?? Or are relegated to AM like their mom and dad??

So very disappointed with the change. Not cool.
I really can not believe this.

I also will miss the traffic and weather every 15 minutes, even in the middle of the night, when WBZ does not provide it.

Started listening to 96.9 in 1997 talk radio. Loved the engaging, thought provoking conversation. The radio is doing a disservice to a loyal following. Turned on my radio this morning and had to listen to the same ole music I can hear on any other Boston radio channel. 96.9 is off my dial. Won't turn it back on until talk is back! Very disappointed!

Can't believe the idiot executives who are behind this change. Jim and Margery were the best team on talk radio since I began listening in 1975.
This new incarnation is doomed to be a big flop. Back to my books on CD.

Hard to believe we lost an amazingly informative, thought provoking station that truly raised awareness of important issues. And we lost it all for what? Another rap, Rhianna, and Kanye West station. Shameful. Greater Media is definitely not for Greater Good.

Tuned into 96.9 this morning and was shocked to hear talk radio was replaced by mind numbing music. Unfortunately, the quality of the programming spiraled down since Jay Severin went off the air. With the exception of Michael Graham, I won't miss any of the other hosts. Nonetheless, the new programming is awful....

As if we NEED another mindless, hip-hop garbage station pumping that synthesized gibberish into our radio-sphere ?! !

For SHAME "Greater Media".

Very disappointed with this change. As someone who listens to the radio all day at work, I guess I'm back to hearing the same songs repeated every hour. Or maybe no radio at all.

This really sucks ,I hope the new format flops .

Greater media you suck .

Why?
This teen music isn't going to last. There's a Disney station for that. It needs more variety.

Like a Nova, it blows.

Wow, how messed up are these media moguls! First they get rid of Don Imus, Michele McPhee, and Jay Severin, and now drop talk radio completely. They are acting like media morons. Talk 96.9 was opposite of what crappy NPR was playing, especially when Michele McPhee was on there. GREAT, another $h!ty music station on the radio! Get a clue idiots yours stations all sound the same! I don't even listen to music radio because of this reason! I just down load music and listen to slacker. I hope you fail and loose your licenses!!!! Greater Media crash and burn b!tche$!!!! Oh and P.S. " Cadillac" jack needs to get a programming CLUE! This station sounds like kiss 108 and jamin 94.5.

This change by management above the former personalities at WTTK has really let down the New England audience. The local airwaves are now lacking in thought provoking discussion. It is not likely that WTTK dedicated listeners can find another source that meets the level that has just been terminated. Face it, AM does not cut it. Perhalps another location on the dial can build what was great radio....thanks to those personalities that provided entertaining, informative conversation - Jay, Rick/Susan, M.Grahm, Mike S., J & M., Michelle etc.
