WEEI retains Westwood One's NFL package with added bonus

With NFL lockout coming to a close later this week, it was announced today that WEEI AM 850 will continue as the radio broadcast home of Westwood One's NFL programming in a multi-year extension. WEEI will continue to broadcast Sunday and Monday night football which includes the playoffs and the Super Bowl

NFL and Westwood One signed  a brand new 4-year national radio deal back in December. Westwood One's new contract with NFL, which runs thru 2014 season, will now allow Westwood One affiliates in all NFL markets like to carry national radio feed of the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl without a blackout if local NFL team is involved . In another words, if the Patriots were to advance that far into the playoffs next year, WEEI would carry the national broadcast while WBZ-SportsHub 98.5 would offer a local broadcast.
The future of the other piece of WEEI's signature football programming - "Patriots Monday" and "Patriots Friday" - is still to be decided. WEEI's last 4-year contract with the Patriots ended at the conclusion of 2010 season but nothing has been announced yet. With NFL franchises getting back to work shortly, it is likely the Patriots will have something to announce soon.

Anybody notice that WEEI is now on WAAF HD-2?

Might be getting ready to replace WAAF on the radio dial.
