Earlier this evening, WBZ 1030 was named as a ''Legendary Station'', radio broadcasting's most prestigous honor, at the annual Marconi Radio Awards of the National Association of Broadcasters. The event was being held in Washington in conjuction with NAB conference going there this week. With the award, WBZ has won the three major honors a station can receive. The other major awards WBZ has received are Major Market Station of the Year in 1995 and 1998 , and News/Talk Station of the Year in 1999.

Another local winner tonight was WMJX/Magic 106.7 which won for the best Adult Contemporary station of the Year category. The home of Boston's "Continuous Soft Rock", signed on with its current format in January 1982. Ironically, WMJX was nominated in the Legendary Station category last year, but lost out to an Albuquerque, NM station.

In addition, WAAF 107.3 was honored with Marconi nomination in the Rock Station of the Year category, however, it take didn't home any hardware tonight.

The NAB awards are given annually for excellence in American radio in the name of Guglielmo Marconi, who invented the wireless telegraph.
