Hub radio to air Kennedy funeral

As of now, here is the partial list of local radio stations which will provide live coverage tomorrow(8/29) of Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral service from Our Lady of Prepetual Basilica in Mission Hill :

WRKO AM 680 will have live programming starting at 10am. From 10 AM to 10:30 AM, host Avi Nelson will be in-studio taking calls from callers. WRKO will pick up Fox News Radio's feed of the funeral service from Our Lady of Perpetual Basilica in Mission Hill from 10:30am to 12:30pm. From 12:30 to 2 PM, Nelson will be providing follow-up coverage and talkingto callers.

WBUR 90.9FM will broadcast the funeral live starting at around 9:40am. Weekday morning host Bob Oakes will host WBUR's coverage with political consultant Dan Payne and Harvard Kennedy School's lecturer Richard Parker who will provide expertise and commentary on the actual church service. WBUR is also planning to broadcast tonight's(8/28) memorial service from the Kennedy Library from 7-9pm. Friday night's special broadcast will be hosted by Bob Oakes will host that as well.

WTKK 96.9FM will run its regular Saturday morning block with Hank Morse(6am-8am), Mel Robbins(8am-10am), Joe and Huggy(10am-1pm). It will pick up the live coverage of the funeral from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Later in the afternoon, it plans to carry the live network coverage of Senator Kennedy's burial at Arlington National Cemetery starting at 5:30pm.

WBZ AM 1030 will have live continuing coverage of Kennedy funeral throughout the day.

The World Wide Web of Sports. Boston sytle : ESPN has its eyes on the local market. The CT-based sports media behemoth, which found success with its initial hometown sports coverage on ESPN Chicago now plans to roll the same concept out to Boston on September 14th, it was officially announced yesterday. While ESPN was spinning its hyperlocal sports coverage entry into Boston, the big sports radio kahuna WEEI AM 850, is taking the matter seriously. WEEI which will now face serious challenges both on the air - in the form of recently built 98.5 the SportsHub and a crowded field of local on-line sports content providers(ESPNBoston.com, Boston.com, New England Comcast Sports Net, NESN.com as well as locla pro team's own sites), put out its own release hyping station's year-old WEEI.com portal registring very impressive numbers and showing a massive growth in web site traffic and digital audio consumption. Unique visitors to WEEI.com increased 173% and page visits jumped 90% and cracked the 4 million mark for the first time last month.


ESPN Radio's local radio affiliate 890 ESPN which produces five hours of local programming on weekdays(4-7pm and 10pm-Midnight) will now be also incorporated into the new ESPN Boston site. The AM station will also be streamed on the new local sports portal which may actually help in extendsing its reach on-line.

Executive Shuffle : Salem Media Boston has named Pat Ryan as the General Manager of its 3 local AM's(WEZE AM 590, WROL AM 950 and WWDJ AM 1150)...Greater Media Boston names Susan Remkiewicz as Local Sales Manager of WKLB-FM, Boston, beginning in early September. She most recently was Director of Sponsorship Sales for Live Nation. Previously, she was Director of National Sales at Boston stations WJMN-FM, WKOX-AM, WXKS-FM as well as WBZ-AM and WODS-FM. "Susan is a well respected veteran in Boston radio with an amazing reputation," says WMJX GSM Jackie Landry. "She has great passion for the business. Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious. I am looking forward to having her as a partner and a part of our WKLB-FM sales team."
