Foolproof prank for WBCN : Bogus format change Powers April Fool's stunt
Here's a lesson for you: Never believe what's coming out of your radio on (or around) April Fool's Day. Today’s the biggest prankster on the dial is heritage rocker WBCN 104.1FM.
The station is causing a stir this morning by pretending it adopted a new Top 40 format which goes with Power 104 slogan playing nothing but today's hits.
The station went to elaborate lengths to carry off today’s hoax. WBCN put up a goofy Power 104 logo on its website this morning. Its AM drive team “Toucher and Rich” have been conducting a long, mournful on-air farewell and hinting of upcoming changes for the past couple of weeks. They even managed to scam the newsprint media to promote today's prank. The ‘new station’ is even promising to “Rip the lips off Kiss” in it’s a new on-air liner. Hysterical.
Roll over, Beethoven, and go back to sleep.

Fred actually twitted very early this morning from Children's Hospital ER. His son was sick. They also mentioned it on the air after they finally ended the Power 104 gag around 9am.
The Power 104 logo was so retro 80's Top 40 format. Too funny. It reminded me of all those stations that bit the dust so long ago like Hit 103 or Z94. Amy Brooks was so believable as the Top40 morning sidekick chick/bimbo. Great radio theater this AM.

Ooooo how "edgy". They "scammed" the media? What? Stop. The Inside Track is hardly media and those "girls" are harly journalits and are notoriusly lazy. Reprinting the Imporper Bostonian story the other day? What, no phone calls from Sonsie to say Brady was there?
If that is all the people at WBCN could come up with, I feel sorry for the people that fell for it. The least they could have done was do more than a page for a new webpage. Stop it. Just stop it. Unfunny and unoriginal. Enough with the fake edginess already.

I put it on this morning and had to do a double take with the music coming out, I heard the Power 104 add and was like WTF, didnt take me long to realize it was April Fool's day. However I was still like, well maybe. I couldn't keep it on long. I have been wondering all day, was able to put it on a few minutes ago and heard U2's New Years Day and was like "Thank God", very funny and well done. Does anyknow know how they announced the prank?

blah, blah...and countless stations before wbru did this, you lameass. who cares?! it was a break from the everyday boring norm of cookie cutter radio. they made fun of pukey Top 40 form. they pulled it off. it effin' worked. mission accomplished. move on and deal with it.
You all are such haters, theres a big difference between a college station in providence pulling a prank and a cbs station in a top 10 market doing it....The Power 104 station id's were the best!
Why hasn't anyone mentioned ROR's change to Boston's Beatles Station. That's the kiss of death for sure. Another failed format....
All-Beatles from 6am to Midnight, huh? I'd say that is very out of the format for a station that plays music from 60's and 70's.

and the BRU "jack" format swich was not a prank, the station was being sold which came with a format flip to the "Jack" format, a local clube in Provadence put up the cash to buy the station after the fact and the returned to the alt rock format
